Having been to Russia a few years ago, I was pretty curious to see what a ‘Russian’ bar in Toronto would be like. Pravda Vodka Bar brings Communist Russia with all of its propaganda together with a Lenin-esque funkiness about it. Oh and 70 types of vodka as well.
The name Pravda is a Slavic word for “truth” and the concept of the bar is for customers to learn the “truth” behind vodka and to ultimately appreciate it. And with happy hour from 5-7pm every night, I appreciated my cheap vodka cocktails.
Just don’t bump into any real Russians in this place as they’re not pleased with the fact that this bar is ‘celebrating’ that pig Lenin (exact words).
This place is cool, I like it and I can’t wait to take my Russian travel partner Miss Jane here when she visits. We can reminisce about our time eating ‘Crap dogs’ in Red Square and managing not to get busted by the KGB. Now I wonder if they practice ‘face control’ here on a Friday night just like they do in Russia?
