Now how can I resist a restaurant with a chandelier made from 150 Kaiju figures of Godzilla and King Kong? Origin came highly recommended by a friend and was voted number one in Toronto Life  so I figured this was worth a try.

Billed as a ‘global food bar’, they serve tapas style meals which Toronto Life describes as ‘fresh, brash, meticulous and beautifully trashy’.  An interesting description for an interesting restaurant. The best way to start is with the Spicy Spanish fries with chorizo and manchego, a rich man’s version of poutine. Other must haves are the Chinois Duck wraps and the Miso Glazed Black Cod. Small portions but great food to share with good friends…and a bottle of vino of course.

I’m jumping on the band wagon for this one not only for the food but for the restoration of one of Toronto’s oldest buildings, its 120 year old reclaimed wooden counter and that damn funky chandelier. The one down side is that with the open kitchen, you walk out smelling ‘beautifully trashy’.
