Every September celebs and the paparazzi invade Toronto for the Toronto International Film Festival or TIFF. If you’re not lucky enough to get tickets through the website you can head down to the TIFF Lightbox and try your luck at getting them in person. Or you can do what I did and sweet talk your advertising agency into getting you some tickets.
As TIFF is a hot ticket, it’s becoming ever more difficult to get those elusive red carpet premiere tickets. But alas I managed to get premiere tickets to Jake Gyllenhaal’s new movie ‘End of Days’, he’s no Ryan Gosling….but he’ll do. Forget even trying to see the celebs on the red carpet as you’ll end up with elbows in the face and a black eye as you fight the other celeb gawkers.
Once you get into the theatre, try and scmooze with the people beside you. They all seem to have stories or are wannabes. My amusement was the way too young ‘actress’ with the way too old ‘producer’. Apparently he had something to do with the movie ‘Drive’ and she had ‘Big’ projects on the horizon. Hmmm I have to wonder if the only thing big in her horizon were her fake breasts.
But then Jake Gyllenhaal and the cast walked on stage and introduced the movie. Right before my eyes was Jake Gyllenhaal (aka Gay Cowboy), America Ferrera (aka Ugly Betty), Anna Kendricks (aka….?). And the best part was that they sat 4 rows in front of me to watch the film. Only if I’d had popcorn I could have sent a piece flying from straight from my heart into his mountain man beard.
Overall the movie was ok, but afterwards they all came back and did a very long Q&A and I got to stare at my Jakey for another half hour. Not to shabby for a Saturday night out in Toronto.
